The Challenge
The customer was in the process of adopting Sage 100 Contractor software and sought to have it centrally hosted and managed to provide online access for multiple team members. They required a secure, highly available and resilient hosted solution, leading them to consider AWS as the optimal hosting option. As Sage 100 Contractor needed to be accessed by multiple users, secure authorized individual access was essential. So Okta single sign-on was used to transform the software into a SaaS solution based on a pool model.
IDT Solution
IDT began by gathering the performance requirements and understanding the customer’s desired user experience. Based on this, we proposed a solution using Windows Remote Desktop with RemoteApp functionality, where authorized users would only see the application window. Amazon AppStream service allows users to connect to the solution from the internet. Once both parties agreed on the proposal, IDT developed a detailed project plan and architecture design.
The solution included an Application Server (Windows Server with Remote Desktop) and an auto-scaled fleet of AppStream servers running the Sage 100 Contractor application. User authentication and Okta integration were implemented using a Windows AD server.
The implementation followed the Infrastructure-as-Code approach, ensuring no manual configuration was required. IDT's DevOps team provided comprehensive documentation, enabling PVH Construction LLC to take over the management of their new AWS infrastructure quickly.
